National Family Civil Rights Center
NFCRC - March 25, 2014
New York, New York
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Today, the National Family Civil Rights Center responded to Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette's claim to be defending the "will of the people" in appealing U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman's decision striking down Michigan's same-sex marriage ban as unconstitutional.

NFCRC: "Michigan is on the wrong side of history on this issue... Michigan's appeal now distinguishes Michigan from its sister states who have decided that equal rights outweigh the intolerance of the majority."

NFCRC's letter to Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette and Governor Rick Synder can be downloaded at this link.

NFCRC asks Michigan families to immediately contact the Michigan Attorney General's office at (517) 373-1110 and the Governor's office at (517) 373-3400 to request that Michigan join Kentucky, Oregon, Nevada, Virginia, Pennsylvania, California and Illinois and decline to defend its unconstitutional state ban on same-sex marriage by withdrawing Michigan's appeal and stay application filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
